When Morphix (the base for the BDI-Live) switched to the 2.6 series kernels,
unionfs had some bugs that were biting hard. In addition, EMC was not in a
state where it would compile on a 2.6 kernel. Although a 2.4 kernel could
have been used, there were numerous changes in the Morphix base module to
support 2.6 kernels that would need to be "undone"..
Now that one branch of EMC compiles on a 2.6 kernel and unionfs appears to
have stabilised, the time may be ripe for another build. One possibility is
to hijack one of the Morphix nightly builds and insert an RTAI patched
kernel. The remaining task of generating a main module would be fairly
straight forward. There is probably a day or two worth of work involved
compiling a patched kernel and matching RTAI & EMC modules, bulding of the
ISO image can be pretty much automated... Testing and debugging could quite
easily soak up several weeks of time.
Regards, Paul.
